The Prophet’s Candle – First Week of Advent

What is Advent?

The word Advent means “coming” or “arrival.” The focus of the entire season is:

• the celebration of the birth of Jesus the Christ in his First Advent.

• the anticipation of the return of Christ the King in his Second Advent.

Advent is much more than simply marking a 2,000 year old event in history. Advent is a season of preparation. God is love. If we are believers and we are “in” God then our lives should be characterized by the same love that characterizes Him. This love we are talking about is not simply a warm fuzzy feeling; rather it is a choice that has the highest good of the object loved in mind.  This means in relation to others, encouraging them and doing things they will like. Sometimes  it means having to say hard things,  or things that are  difficult to hear. (more…)
